In 1998, 20 years ago, a bond issue to widen U.S. 31 was on the mind of Rep. Frank P. “Skippy” White, saying it would cost the county no money. I guess this must have been the widening from Brewton to Flomaton.

Changes in Medicare meant patients getting less care at home and providers losing their home health jobs. Part of this was about whether home health providers were always capable of taking blood.

Candi Pearson was crowned Miss Northview High School in a pageant held at the school.

Two Hadley brothers were facing sentencing for the murder of an elderly Nokomis man. Their sentences were on hold.

A shoplifter caught by a K-Mart employee was trying to throw a television over the fence to accomplices waiting in a car. The employee told him to put the television down but instead the thief jumped over the fence and took off running. The employee was slightly injured and the search is on for the shoplifter.

The trial of a Davisville man who was charged with killing an Atmore woman, was helped by BLAB-TV who staged the crime scene less than a month after the event. The culprit was caught with the help of the staging.

The kids at Rachel Patterson Elementary School attended a Valentine Dance held at the school. A photo was included of some students smiling and dancing.

Jake Tucker, the son of Tim and Buffy Tucker, celebrated his second birthday.

A drive was held to determine possible donors of bone marrow for a patient was held and there were possibly 10 matches made. They were trying to let the public know how important it was to have donors.

A CSX train collided with a pickup truck on County Road 17 and Hwy. 31.
