NJPW show, time with friends was great

Staring at a blank page while the cursor blinks isn’t very comforting.

Over the weekend, my friend turned to me and said, “I’d wonder what it would be like to be in your head, Garner.”

I laughed and said, “I don’t know. It’d be a wild ride.”

I say this to say that there are so many things swirling around in my head that I couldn’t figure out a column topic to write about.

Usually that wouldn’t be a problem, but this week it was.

And I really don’t know why.

Last weekend, I spent my time away in Fort Mitchell at a friend’s house.

While there, we woke up early, early, like in the middle of the night early, and watched a New Japan Pro-Wrestling promotion called Dominion 6.9.

The show began at 3 a.m. EST and concluded at 8 a.m.

We were trying to figure out what we were going to do in the lead up to the show. We had two options — one was to stay up all night and watch the show. The second option was to take a nap and watch the show afterward.

We decided to do the latter.

When I woke up at around 2 a.m., I was already awake and felt refreshed.

A friend put on the coffee about an hour later and we all gathered in the TV room for the show.

Even thought tired throughout, I was enthralled as I watched.

One thing I realized a day later was that the show did a good job of ramping up the excitement for the main event.

In the main event, Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada put on a show of legend, and one that will be talked about for years to come. In the co-main event, Chris Jericho defeated Tetsuya Naito in a thriller.

By the time Omega finished his press conference at the end, I was spent and ready for bed.

As my friend and I sludged our way back to the room to get a few hours of shuteye — it was 8 a.m. at that point — I had a big smile on my face as I remembered an earlier conversation I had before the show began.

“This is quite unique in that there are only like two sports that get people up early in the morning — soccer and wrestling,” I said.

I’m just glad that I chose friends and to watch wrestling last weekend.
