Looking Back: Dobson was 3rd out of 8,000

In 1994, 25 years ago, Prince Arnold of Wilcox County spoke to a packed congregation at Greater Mt. Triumph in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

Matthew Dobson was 33rd of 8,000 to run in the first annual Walt Disney World Marathon. That is good. I don’t see how they keep up with so many people running at the same time.

It did not come as a surprise to leaders of the black community that the Escambia County High School Band did not participate in the Martin Luther King Parade.

The West Escambia County Chapter of the American Red Cross collected for the California victims of the earthquake.

There was a big “thank you” in The Atmore Advance to recognize Dorothy V. Haircloth for her many years of service to the Atmore Public Library. It seems as if there was a lot of misunderstanding about her leaving the library and a lot of people got their feelings hurt.

Weldon Vickrey had his eye on the sky for purple martins returning to Atmore. Apparently purple martins are the resident birds of Atmore. They must be good to hang around because they eat the bugs and mosquitoes.

William C. Adams was killed in a wreck on Jack Springs Road.

Dr. Ben Maxwell was named Citizen of the Year for 1993.
