The time has arrived to sign up 4- and 5-year-olds for kindergarten at area schools for the 2012-2013 school year.

Registration is currently ongoing at Escambia Academy and is just around the corner for Rachel Patterson and Huxford elementary schools.

Escambia Academy is currently holding registration for its K-4 and K-5 classes until all classes are filled.

For parents looking for a school to register their new student at, Escambia Academy wants them to come visit to see if the school is the right fit, EA Headmaster Betty Warren said.

“We have a lot to offer at our school,” she said. “We just encourage parents to visit Escambia Academy and to take a tour of our school to see what we have for our students.”

Students to be signed up for the K-4 and K-5 classes must be 4 or 5 years old on or before Oct. 1. To be eligible for the registration, parents must present their child, an immunization record, original social security card and original birth certificate. In Atmore, Rachel Patterson Elementary School will hold its kindergarten registration on Friday from 8 to 11 a.m. To be eligible to start kindergarten, the child must be 5 on or before Sept. 1. Parents must bring their child, an immunization record, original social security card and original birth certificate to registration.

Huxford Elementary School will hold its registration on Thursday, April 5, from 8 a.m. to noon at the school.

With registration opening next week, a high number of new enrollees would be exciting, Huxford Elementary School Principal Greg Sheehan said.

“We want a good turnout,” he said. “Our registration gets started next week, and we are excited about bringing in new students. We will also have HIPPY at the school to speak to parents of preschool students who are interested in that program.”
