The Atmore City Council approved raises for all city employees at its Monday Sept. 10 meeting. Mayor Howard Shell estimated the last time city employees received a raise was around four or five years ago. The type of raise is termed a “step raise,” which means the amount of the raise is contingent on the ranking or position of the employee. Shell said raises should be anywhere between three to five percent.
In other business the council:

∙Approved the letting of bids on a street sweeper for the City of Atmore. Mayor-elect Jim Staff suggested City Councilman John Garrard’s name should be on a sign placed on the back of the sweeper when the city acquires one because of Garrard’s long-standing desire for the city to have the machine.

∙Approved the appointment of Rob Faircloth to the City of Atmore’s Utilities Board

∙Approved a restaurant liquor license for Acapulco Mexican Restaurant

∙Approved a tax lien issued at two local properties for abatement of grass and weed nuisances

∙Approved the minutes from the Aug. 27 regular meeting and the Sept. 4 special meeting

∙Approved the accounts payable ledger
