Chiefs prepare for playoff run

As the Northview Chiefs prepare to host the West Florida Jaguars from Pensacola, the team has learned they will also be hosting the Cottondale Hornets for their first round playoff game. The Chiefs became the winner of their district following their 40-6 road win against Baker this past Friday night, ensuring them of home-field advantage in the first round.

The Hornets have played four of the same teams as the Chiefs. They compiled a 1-3 record against such foes, while the Chiefs were 3-1.
Overall, the Hornets have a 4-4 record and will play another playoff-bound team in Bozeman this week.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs will face a formidable playoff-bound opponent themselves in West Florida. The team sports an impressive 9-0 record in the 5A classification. West Florida is currently the fourth-ranked team in the AP top 10 poll for Florida in the 5A classification, while Northview is also the fourth-ranked team in their classification, 1A.

Earlier this season, West Florida beat Gulf Breeze 37-14, a team Northview lost to on the road by a score of 44-20. The game against the Chiefs is a tune-up for West Florida, who will host sixth-ranked Godby in their playoff game.

Key players for the Jaguars include quarterback Joey Baker, receiver Lawrence Lee, linebacker Kenny Davis, and defensive back Demtrius Smith. Baker has accumulated 26 touchdowns for the season, 20 passing and six rushing. Lee has 13 touchdowns of his own, nine receiving and four rushing. Davis leads West Florida in tackles and sacks, while Smith leads the team in interceptions.

Northview will host West Florida on Friday, Nov. 9 in Bratt with kickoff at 7 p.m.
