“Each player contributed,” Courtney said. “It was a total team effort.”

The win over the Tigers improves the Blue Devils’ record to 12-6 and a perfect 4-0 in the area. Courtney said the team has began to play better together after a slow start.

“You don’t want to start slow, but if you get the chance, you want to start slow instead of finish slow,” he said.

Courtney said the team made adjustments going into the game that helped including changing up the defensive pressure.

“Thomasville was a little shocked by it,” he said.

The team also turned a corner by not giving up a 16-point lead in the third quarter, Courtney said. ECHS had extended the lead to 20 by the start of the fourth quarter.

“That was huge,” he said. “It was good to see that in process of being corrected.”

Courtney said he had been a little worried his team would overlook Thomasville with rival Baldwin County High School following on the schedule, but that didn’t happen.

“It crosses your mind,” he said. “You can’t help but think about it.”

Desmond Williams led the team with 15 points and Fred Knight added 12 in the win.

ECHS puts its perfect area record on the line Tuesday when it host Clarke County at 6 p.m. The Blue Devils will host UMS-Wright on Friday.
