With a 36-18 win over Marshall Middle School of Evergreen, The Escambia County Middle Preparatory School boys’ basketball team took the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. tournament title Monday.

The tournament most valuable player was Preston Knox, who scored four points in the championship game. Teammates Eric Williams and Chille Ford, with eight points each, were named all-tournament performers.

ECMPS started quickly, using steals and fast-break points on the other end to take a 14-2 lead with 2:41 left in the first quarter.
The Golden Eagles extend their lead over the Mustangs to 23-4 by the end of the quarter.

“ECMPS continued its suffocating defense, only allowing the Mustangs to add two points halfway through the second quarter. The Golden Eagles led 25-8 with two minutes left in the first half and increased it to 27-8.

ECMPS increased its lead by five to start the third quarter at 32-8 and the Mustangs were held scoreless in the quarter at the 3:36 mark. Marshall was down 36-10 at the end of the quarter.
