ECHS loses to 6th-ranked Bulldogs

The Escambia County High School Blue Devils’ baseball team lost 13-3 to UMS-Wright Thursday in Mobile.

With the score tied at 3-3, the No. 6-ranked Bulldogs scored six runs in the bottom of the third and four runs in the bottom of the fourth to run-rule the Blue Devils and shorten the game to five innings.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before the Blue Devils scored one run in the second and two in the third to tie it up, said ECHS coach Gavin King.

“We helped them a little with some errors and not calling each other off on pop ups,” he said. “I really felt we could’ve played better. If we had played one of our better games we could’ve competed with them.”

Pitcher Malcolm Black got the start for ECHS. He threw into the fourth inning before Nytoious Cooler relieved him.

Black and Tyler Sanspree scored RBIs, while Deandrez McCarthy, Wesley Jefferson and A.J. Matthews scored runs in the loss.

The Blue Devils played UMS-Wright in a doubleheader Friday night in Mobile, but results weren’t available as of press time.

ECHS will take on Thomasville at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in its next home game.
