Atmore native and former professional baseball player Lou Vickery has written a new book, but it’s not what you might think.

The author and radio host’s 11th book, “Notes From God” has a spiritual tone and is meant to allow the reader daily reflections and Bible study.

“I would like this to be a companion for a person in their walk with God,” Vickery said. “I want this to help them be more faithful in their walk with God.”

Vickery said the book, which is published by Upward Press, contains more than 400 passages and corresponding Bible verses, meant to be used daily.

“I think it’s a great way to make a Biblical connection, he said. “It’s a reminder.”

The passages are short and kept to three related passages per page.

“It’s in keeping with today’s society,” he said. “They want everything instant. That’s somewhat been the purpose of this.”

Started in 1997, the project has taken 16 years to complete, but he said the time was right to publish the book. The book started as little notes Vickery made as a reminder to himself. His wife, Dana, has also been involved in the project. She designed the cover.

“The journey has been over rough and rugged terrain,” he said.

Vickery said over the course of the project, he has gained much more knowledge of the Bible. He said poring over verses to find ones that corresponded with select passages took time.

Vickery said he learned much more about the books of the Old Testamant and the keys to living daily life it holds.

“We, in the Christian faith, are more familiar with the New Testament than the Old Testament,” he said. “Isaiah, Jeremiah and some of those books were right on about daily life. There are good lessons in those books.”
