The Escambia County High School Blue Devils’ football team is still hard at work preparing for the upcoming football season.

Coach Lev Holly said the team just finished its third week of weight lifting, which helps the team develop chemistry as well as other important skills, like strength, endurance and mental toughness.

“There’s a lot of commitment and a lot of dedication,” he said of players’ training routines. “They’re showing some maturity.”

The team will continue lifting Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of next week. The team has started seven-on-seven drills as a team and will scrimmage Northview Thursday at 4 p.m. in Bratt.

“We’re going to start passing and getting the timing down,” Holly said. “Most importantly we’re going to go out there and compete.”

Holly said about 40 players participated in weight training this week, but “a lot of kids were out of town.”
