Devils lose opener at county tourney

BREWTON — Escambia County High School lost its opening game at the county tournament Thursday, falling 13-2 to host team T.R. Miller.

Gaetyn Thames scored one of the Blue Devils’ runs. He was initially called out during a close play at the plate, but the call was reversed because the T.R. Miller catcher lost control of the ball.

Ricky Reed took the loss for the Devils, working 4-1/3 innings and allowing five runs on six hits. He walked two batters, hit two batters, and struck out four. Tyler Weaver and Gage White also pitched in the game for ECHS.

Matthew Quimby and Wesley Jefferson had the lone hits.

ECHS (1-3) is scheduled to play W.S. Neal today at 4 p.m., and against Flomaton at 11 a.m. Saturday. All games are at T.R. Miller High School.
