Northview falls in state semis

The Northview High School Chiefs baseball team fell in the Class 1A state semifinals Wednesday, losing 7-4 to Blountstown at Jet Blue Park in Fort Myers, Fla.

Northview finished the year with a record of 19-3, a school record. It was also the Chiefs’ first trip to the state’s final four.

The Chiefs took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, after a home run by Thomas Moore. The game was delayed 30 minutes for lightning, in the second inning.

Blountstown moved in front 4-1 in the top of the third, but Northview clawed back with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Tigers added two earned runs in the top of the fourth, moving ahead 6-3. Northview added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, and Blountstown scored a run in the top of the sixth.

Moore was 3-for-4 in the game, with three RBIs and a home run. Quentin Sampson was 2-for-3, Brett Weeks was 2-for-3 and Chasen Freeman was 1-for-4.
