An argument over a cell phone and a police chase led to the arrest of an Atmore man earlier this month.

Chief Deputy Mike Lambert with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said Cedric Montrez Poindexter, 34, is charged with attempting to elude, burglary III, domestic violence III (harassment) and driving while suspended or revoked.

“Deputies responded to a home on April 28 after (Poindexter allegedly) forced his way in on his girlfriend,” Lambert said. “The two then got into a physical altercation over a cell phone.”

Lambert said deputies attempted to negotiate with Poindexter; however, those negotiations failed and a deputy then attempted to taser the Atmore man.

“The deputy missed, and Poindexter sped off,” Lambert said. “We were able to obtain information that he was at a residence in Atmore and he was taken into custody on May 4.”

Poindexter was released on a $10,000 bond.
