Escambia County’s boys and girls basketball teams ended their seasons Tuesday night in the semifinals of the Class 5A, Area 2 tournament at Vigor High School.

The Blue Devils, which suffered late-season injuries, fell 69-64 to Jackson.

ECHS coach Bruce Craig said the boys started out well in the game, going ahead by 15-16 in the first period.

“After that, we just kind of lost our composure and got careless with the ball,” Craig said. “They made a run and came back.”

At halftime, the Blue Devils led 37-36.

Demetrius Barnes led ECHS with 12 points; Devonte Lee had 11 points; and Eric Williams chipped in 10 points.

Craig had to start four freshmen in the game because two of the varsity starters are out with injuries — Triston Knott (ankle) and Chille Ford (shoulder).

With this being his first year as the Blue Devils coach, Craig said there is a bright future ahead for Atmore.

ECHS ended its season 16-6.

The girls played a good game as well, but ended up falling only by a few points, Craig said.
