Royce Young will not be the head football coach at Escambia County High School next season.

A job posting for a teacher/head football coach was posted on the Escambia County School System’s website earlier today.

ECHS Principal Dennis Fuqua confirmed that Young will not be the head football coach next year.

“We’re looking to go in a different direction for the upcoming year,” Fuqua said. “The current coaching staff has worked hard, and we are looking to continue to move in a positive direction.”

Young was 4-26 during his three years at ECHS. He has had previous coaching stints at Carbon Hill and Brilliant.

Fuqua said he’s anxious to start looking for a new coach.

“Hopefully, we’ll narrow down the applications and start our interviews,” he said. “I’m just looking for the best fit for Escambia County High School.”

Fuqua said he is looking to have a coach hired by February’s board of education meeting so the new coach can start in March.

Young will stay on working at ECHS for the rest of the school year, Fuqua said.
