Brooks said Atmore Ambulance was called to the scene, and transported Quarles to Atmore Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Brooks said according to witnesses, Quarles was found lying on Ann Street after they heard several gunshots in the area.

APD investigators were told by witnesses that Quarles was riding a bicycle to the store to purchase cigarettes when the offense occurred, Brooks said.

Brooks said Friday afternoon that there is no additional information available in relation to the investigation.

The APD is working the case as a homicide and those with information are encouraged to call 251-368-9141.
