Escambia Academy’s junior varsity volleyball team has been a roll as of late.

The Lady Cougars have won three matches in a row on their way to a 3-1 record early in the season.

First-year head coach Chad Weaver said the team is taking what is taught in practice and applying the skills in order to be successful on the court.

“The team is starting to come together and portraying what they are learning in practice and that’s what is allowing us to be successful,” he said Tuesday morning.

Monday afternoon, North Mobile Christian School became the Lady Cougars’ latest victim as they defeated the Lady Crusaders in two matches 25-19, 25-20 and 25-15, 25-22.

Weaver said following a loss to open the season, the Lady Cougars’ junior varsity has come on strong.

“We lost our first match of the season and have won three in a row since, so we just want to build off that momentum,” he said.

The varsity squad is winless on the season with a 0-2 record. Weaver said he hopes Thursday at home the Lady Cougars will capture their first win.

“We are going to be looking forward to chalking up a win for the varsity,” he said.

EA’s junior varsity and varsity squads will take on Jackson Academy in doubleheaders Thursday afternoon beginning at 4 p.m. in Canoe.

“I want to personally invite everybody to attend, the girls really need their support,” Weaver said.
