With the playoffs out of the picture, the Escambia Academy Cougars are now focused on finishing their season on a high note with two games left against opponents from AISA Class 3A.

This Friday, the Cougars (4-5, 2-4) take on the Fort Dale Academy Eagles, who are currently ranked at No. 8 in the ASWA Poll, on a night where seniors will be honored.

Cougars head coach Heath Gibson said the Eagles have a size advantage over his team.

“They are a lot bigger than us up front,” Gibson said. “They do like to throw the ball, which is a plus because they don’t run as much as other teams do. If they ran the ball then their line would have a mismatch over us. They still might line up and run though because they like to run a power-I.”

For the Cougars playing fundamentally sound football will be a key to coming away with a victory.

Gibson said avoiding mental errors will give his team the best chance to win.

“I want to see us go out and play football the right way,” Gibson said. “I don’t want us to have any mistakes, and I want our guys to play with a lot of effort.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
