Lady Blue Devils open season 2-0

The Lady Blue Devils of Escambia County earned their second win of the season on Tuesday night on their trip to Evergreen to face the Hillcrest-Evergreen Lady Jaguars.

Escambia County (2-0, 0-0) overcame a poor shooting performance to knock off the Lady Jaguars 39-22.

Lady Blue Devils head coach Lorenzo Jones said his team was lucky to get their second win despite how they played.

“We are fortunate to get out of Evergreen with a win and we are grateful for it,” Jones said. “Our performance was very disappointing.”

The Lady Blue Devils opened the game with the lead and never looked back as they jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first quarter.

They extended their lead in the second period outscoring Hillcrest 13-8 and rolled into halftime leading 22-11.

Following halftime, ECHS pounded points onto the scoreboard adding 14 and allowing three as they pushed into the final period of play ahead 36-14.

Hillcrest was able to cut into the Lady Blue Devils’ lead slightly in the fourth quarter as they outscored ECHS 8-3, but still fell 39-22.

Lady Blue Devils guard Diamond Williams led ECHS with a double-double recording 10 points and 10 rebounds. She also had five assists, four rebounds and two blocks in the win.
