Lady Cougars fall to Lady Wildcats

Escambia Academy’s Lady Cougars fell to 5-4 on the season with a 43-38 loss to the Wilcox Academy Lady Wildcats on Monday night in Camden.

The Lady Cougars hung tough with the Lady Wildcats for most of the game, but a third-quarter slump led to the loss.

In the first quarter, EA jumped ahead of the Lady Wildcats as they cruised to a 12-8 lead.

The Lady Cougars continued to lead the game in the second period as they outscored the Lady Wildcats 8-7 and took the lead into halftime ahead 20-15.

Following halftime, the Lady Wildcats took advantage of an EA cold streak to pull ahead.

In the third quarter, the Lady Cougars went cold from the field and only scored seven points, while Wilcox scored 17 and took the lead 32-27.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Cougars started hitting shots and scored 11 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit as the Lady Wildcats also scored 11 to pick up the 43-38 win.

Lady Cougars senior Amber Huskey led EA with 17 points in the loss. She also had eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

Rachel Fuller added six points, while Carlie Broughton scored five and Grayson Emmons four.

Taylor Helton led the Lady Cougars with 16 rebounds.
