The Lady Blue Devils hung tough in the second period as they tightened up on defense tying the Lady Raiders with six points to go into halftime down 18-14.

Following halftime, the Lady Blue Devils found momentum, but the slight advantage the Lady Red Raiders held would prove to be the difference.

ECHS began chipping away at the slim lead B.C. Rain held as they outscored the Lady Red Raiders 11-10 to pull within three points heading into the final quarter.

The Lady Blue Devils again outscored the Lady Red Raiders in the fourth period this time 13-12, but the four-point difference from the first quarter proved to be the deciding factor as B.C. Rain came away with a 40-38 win.

Lady Blue Devils head coach Lorenzo Jones said his team battled, but struggled at the charity stripe.

“We battled with them from start to finish, but we did not execute from the free-throw line,” he said. “We played solid defense and stayed in the game. We have to work on finishing our plays and stepping up to the line and making our free throws. We let another one get away because we didn’t convert those important shots.”

Lady Blue Devils guard Diamond Williams led ECHS with 16 points. She also recorded seven rebounds, three blocks, two steals and one assist.

Guard Jasmine Ireland added 10 points and grabbed two steals. Ireland also had one assist and one board.

Breanna Martin and Cha’Nae Lyles each scored five points in the loss. Marin had five boards and assist, while Lyles had three assists and two steals.

Tierra Dale recorded six rebounds, four blocks, one assist and a steal in the loss.

The Lady Blue Devils next game is Friday against Saraland. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
