Lady Cougars fall to Sparta

Another double-double effort by Lady Cougar Amber Huskey could not keep Escambia Academy from falling to the Sparta Lady Warriors on Tuesday night in Evergreen.

Huskey finished the game with 22 points and 18 rebounds, but the Lady Cougars lost 58-42.

The Lady Cougars (11-5,4-0) improved at the free throw line (20-of-28), but still shot poor from the field shooting 11-for-47.

In the first quarter, the Lady Cougars normally suffocating defense could not stop the Lady Warriors who built an 18-9 lead on EA.

In the second quarter, the Lady Cougars, pulled back into the game by outscoring the Lady Warriors 22-13.

At halftime, the teams were knotted at 31.

Following halftime, the Lady Warriors looked like the did in the first quarter as they dominated the second half.

In the third quarter, the Lady Cougars fell behind the Lady Warriors again as Sparta outscored them 11-7 to pull ahead 44-38.

Any chance the Lady Cougars had of catching up to the Lady Warriors vanished early in the fourth period as Sparta dominated the quarter outscoring EA 16-4 to pick up the 58-52 win.

Lady Cougar Taylor Helton scored six points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the loss. She also posted an assist.

Lacie Flowers added five points for EA, while Grayson Emmons recorded four. Flowers also recorded four steals, two rebounds and two assists and Emmons had three rebounds and an assist.

Rachel Fuller and Megan Duncan each scored two points for the Lady Cougars. Fuller finished with two rebounds and assist, while Duncan posted two rebounds.
