EA Cougars now 18-0

The wins keep on coming for the No. 7 Escambia Academy Cougars who are now 18-0 after beating the Fort Dale Eagles on Monday night.

The Cougars (18-0, 5-0) had to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit, but found a way to earn a win 53-50 on senior night.

The Cougars opened the game with some shooting struggles, while the Eagles made the most of their opportunities jumping out to a 15-10 lead.

In the second quarter, the Cougars were again outscored by the Eagles 16-11 who put away some of their points on fast breaks.

At halftime, the Cougars trailed 31-21.

Following halftime, the Cougars went to work as they began cutting into the Eagles’ lead.

The 10-point lead the Eagles built in the first half was whittled down in the third quarter as the Cougars started mounting their comeback outscoring the Eagles 18-12.

Trailing 43-39 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Cougars continued to dominate the second half as they finished the game on a 14-7 run to earn their 18th victory 53-50.

The Cougars were led in their win by Keaton Maher’s double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Darron McGhee and Tanner Kirk added 10 points apiece. McGhee also recorded eight rebounds and three assists, while Kirk posted three rebounds and two steals.

Jaylen Henry scored seven points for EA to go along with three assists, two rebunds and one steal.

Brandon Goddard posted four points in the win with three rebounds, three steals and an assist.

Wesley Steadham rounded out the scoring for the Cougars with two points as well as a rebound and assist.

The Cougars next game is Thursday in the region tournament in Grove Hill. The Cougars are the No. 1 seed and will play No. 4 seeded Patrician Academy. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
