EA Cougars suffer loss to Monroe 14-1

The Cougars of Canoe suffered a rout on Monday as they were defeated 14-1 by the Monroe Academy Volunteers in Monroeville.

The Cougars (2-2, 0-0) held the lead early as they went on top 1-0 in the top of the second inning as Hunter Bates knocked in a Cougars runner.

The lead would not last long though as the Volunteers scored five runs in the bottom of the third and would add one run in the bottom of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Volunteers put the nail in coffin with eight runs as they won by a 10-run rule.

Chason Roley led the Cougars at the plate going 2-for-3 in the loss, while Jarrett Hadley hit 1-for-3 with a double.

Keaton Maher pitched all five innings for the Cougars striking out five and walking six.

The Cougars next game is Friday at Clarke Prep in Grove Hill. Games begin at 4 p.m.
