Lady Blue Devils fall to Flomaton 8-7

Escambia County rallied in the final inning of their game against the visiting Flomaton Lady Hurricanes, but came up two runs short of a victory as the Lady Hurricanes won 8-7 at Tom Byrne Park on Wednesday.

The Lady Blue Devils were trailing 8-1 at the end of the third inning, but bounced back in the bottom of the seventh picking up five runs to give Flomaton all they could handle.

The game started with both teams scoring runs in the first inning.

The Lady Hurricanes opened the first with Filmore singling and scoring on a double by Godwin.

Escambia County tied the game in their half of the inning with Cha’Nae Lyles leading off with a walk and stealing second base. Lyles was then knocked in by Tristen Boothe’s double.

Flomaton followed up in the second inning by beating up on the Lady Devils’ defense adding five runs to the scoreboard.

McClammey led off the inning with a single, which was followed by Henkelman who made it on due to an error. Filmore then ripped a single that scored McClammey and Henkelman. The next two batters for Flomaton were walked and they scored on a hit by Harwell to give Flomaton a 6-1 lead.

After the Lady Blue Devils were held scoreless in the bottom of the second, the Lady Hurricanes scored two more runs in the top of the third with Salazar and Steele reaching base and scoring a double by Godwin.

Trailing 8-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Blue Devils scored another run with Claire Ahern reaching on a single and scoring on a fielder’s choice by Ynetta Craft.

No hits or runs were recorded in the fifth or sixth innings, but the Lady Blue Devils came back in the seventh.

Claire Ahern led off the inning with a walk followed by Lyles who was hit by a pitch. After Boothe walked, the bases were loaded for Jasmine Ireland who ripped a line drive scoring Ahern and Lyles to make the score 8-4.

Tierra Dales singled to score Boothe making the score 8-5, and that was followed by a fielder’s choice that knocked in Ireland to bring ECHS within two runs.

Ynetta Craft then singled and was followed by another single by Chelsea Gaffney to score Dale cutting the score to 8-7. Craft was then thrown out in a rundown ending the game.

The Lady Blue Devils next game is Tuesday at home against Robertsdale. Games begin at 4:30 p.m.
