Cougars crush PCA 13-1

In two late week games last week, the Escambia Academy Cougars went 1-1 picking up a win over Pensacola Christian Academy Warriors on Friday and falling to the Northview Chiefs 4-1 on Thursday.

With the win and loss, the Cougars now sit at 8-5 on these season and 2-1 in their region.

The Cougars next game will be Thursday at on the road in Robertsdale at Central Christian School.

The varsity Cougars will take on the Saints with the game beginning at 3:30 p.m.

A seven-run first inning started the surge that would help the Escambia Academy Cougars pick up their eighth win of the season as they crushed the Pensacola Christian Academy Warriors 13-1 last Friday in Pensacola, Fla..

The Cougars (8-5, 2-1) dominaated the first inning and never allowed the Warriors to find any rhythm on their home field.

Escambia Academy opened the top of the first inning with a strong showing as seven Cougars made it around the bases with Jarrett Hadley (1-for-1, 2R), Chason Roley (2-for-3, 2R), Hunter Bates (1-for-1, 3R), Keaton Maher, (0-for-2, R), Reid Bell (1-for-3, R), Ryan Linam (0-for-2, R) and Clayton Dyess (0-for-2, R) all scoring.

Leading 7-0, the Cougars stopped the Warriors cold in their first at-bat adn went back to work in the second inning as Bates scored his second run of the game to extend the Cougars’ lead to eight runs.

Again, the Cougars defense did their job getting the Warriors to go three up and three down before being stopped themselves in the top of the third.

While again holding the Warriors to zero runs in the third inning, the Cougars offense found away to get another run on the board as Bates scored his third run of the game being knocked in by Ross to put EA up 9-0.

The Cougars put the final their final runs on the board in the top of the fifth with four batters making it around to score.

Leading 9-0, Tyle Moser (0-for-0, R), Hadley, Roley and Colby White gave the Cougars a 13-0 edge by the time their half of the inning was through.

The Warriors finally found the scoreboard in the final inning with Bucy getting one on the board, but PCA would be unable to find anymore runs giving the Cougars the 12-run win.

The Northview Chiefs got some revenge on their stateline neighbors last Thursday in Bratt, Fla. as they beat the Escambia Academy Cougars 4-1.

The win came one week after the Cougars (8-5, 2-1) defeated the Chiefs 4-3 in Canoe.

In the first inning, neither team found any momentum as they both went to the plate and were unable to get any runs across home.

After holding the Cougars scoreless in the second, the Chiefs found a way to score first as Vaughn reached base on an error and scored on a single by Freeman.

With a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, the Chiefs again stopped the Cougars’ offense and then put another run on the board in the bottom of the third. Dabney Langhorne reached base this time and scored after an error during the next at-bat.

The Cougars were unable to get anything going in their next trip to the plate going three up and three down.

Northview continued their streak and put another run on the scoreboard as Vaughn scored his second run of the game to put the Chiefs ahead 3-0.

Neither team scored in the fifth inning as the Cougars finally held the Chiefs off of the scoreboard, but it would not last long as Northview scored their fourth run in the sixth inning with Austin Arrington crossing the plate.

The Cougars made a final push in the top of the seventh finally as Jarrett Hadley reached base on a double and scored on a single ripped by Chason Roley.
