Cougars fall short to South Choctaw 6-4

Escambia Academy’s baseball season came to a close on Monday afternoon after the Cougars fell to the South Choctaw Academy Rebels 6-4 in Monroeville.

The Cougars were in a fight to advance to the postseason from their region after a three-way tie was posted in the regular season between the Cougars, Rebels and Clarke Prep Gators.

The Cougars were the home team in the game and after falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first came back to tie the game with Jarrett Hadley (1-for-3, R) scoring on a single by Keaton Maher (1-for-3, RBI).

Following the first inning, the two teams battled back-and-forth with neither team gaining a lead until the fourth inning when the Rebels added a run.

The Cougars gained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with Hadley scoring his second run of the game and Chason Roley (1-for-4, R) scoring his first to give EA a 3-2 lead.

The Rebels took the lead for the final time in the top of the sixth as they put four runs on the scoreboard to pull ahead 6-3.

Trailing by three in the bottom of the seventh, the Cougars put five runners on base, but could only get Hunter Bates (0-for-2, R) across the plate, while two other runners were put out in the base path giving the Cougars a 6-4 loss to end the season.
