ECHS opens with two losses

Escambia County Blue Devils guard Fred Knight has been the leading scorer for the Blue Devils through two games.

Escambia County High School opened its 2011 season last Friday with a game at Monroe County High School. The Blue Devils then followed up with a game on Saturday with a contest at Baldwin County High School.

In those contests, the Blue Devils suffered two consecutive losses as they began the season 0-2.

The Blue Devils lost to the Baldwin County Tigers 61-59 and fell to the Monroe County Tigers 61-60.

The Blue Devils next game will be on Tuesday, Nov. 29 on the road at T.R. Miller. Game  time will be 7 p.m.

Following an opening night loss to the Monroe County Tigers, the Escambia County Blue Devils fell to the Baldwin County Tigers in heartbreaking fashion losing 61-59 in Bay Minette.

The Blue Devils (0-2, 0-0) opened the game on a tear as they outscored the Tigers 17-5.

In the second quarter, the teams battled as the Tigers outscored the Blue Devils 9-8, but ECHS held the lead 25-14 at halftime.

Following halftime, the momentum swung as the Blue Devils missed free throws and the Tigers capitalized on their opportunities.

In the third quarter, the Tigers made a huge push as they outscored the Blue Devils 35-9 and took the lead 49-34.

The Blue Devils tried to fight back as they had their own run in the fourth quarter outscoring the Tigers 24-12, but they could not overcome the momentum Baldwin County had built up as they fell 61-59.

In the loss, the Blue Devils were led by guard Fred Knight’s 16 points and also by guard Tony McAroy’s and forward Desmond Wiliams’ 11 points.

Blue Devil Dalvin Craft recorded seven points, while  Corterious Ford and Tyrell Ford each added five points.

The Escambia County Blue Devils opening night was ruined in a loss on the road to the Monroe County Tigers as they fell 61-60 in Monroeville last Friday.

The Blue Devils (0-1, 0-0)  were in a tight battle with the Tigers for four quarters with the Tigers closing out the game with a big fourth quarter.

In the first period, the Blue Devils and Tigers battled back-and-forth down the court with the Tigers coming away with a 17-16 lead.

The Blue Devils took the momentum in the second period as they outscored the Tigers 17-11 to go into halftime leading 33-28.

Following halftime, the Blue Devils and Tigers kept the game close with neither gaining a large edge.

In the third period, the Blue Devils extended their lead by one point as they outscored the Tigers 10-9 to go into the final period leading 43-37.

In the final quarter, the Tigers found a rhythm and scored 24 points and held ECHS to 17 points as they pushed ahead by one point for the 61-60 victory.

The Blue Devils were led in the loss by guard Fred Knight’s 14 points, while Dalvin Craft added nine points of his own.

ECHS guard Tony McAroy scored nine points in the contest and Desmond Williams tossed in eight more.

De’Andreas Johnson posted six points for ECHS with Darious Pettway and Derrick Williams each scoring four.
