Lady Blue Devils place third in county

The surprising Escambia County Lady Blue Devils continued their strong surge as they finished third in the Escambia County Basketball Tournament last weekend at W.S. Neal.

The Lady Blue Devils (9-2, 0-0) went 1-1 at the tournament defeating the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles on the second day of the event and falling to T.R. Miller 20-19 on the first day.

The Flomaton Lady Hurricanes won the tournament for a second consecutive season, while T.R. Miller finished in second place.

In a battle for third place in the Escambia County Basketball Tournament, the Escambia County Lady Blue Devils cruised to a 44-20 victory over the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles on Saturday at W.S. Neal.

The Lady Blue Devils (9-2, 0-0) controlled the tempo of the contest for all four quarters never trailing the Lady Eagles.

In the first quarter, an early rhythm got things going for Escambia County as they rolled out to a 13-2 lead. They kept things rolling in the second period with another big defensive stand as they outscored W.S. Neal 8-2 to go into halftime with a 21-4 lead.

Following halftime, the Lady Blue Devils kept their strong pace to earn an easy win.

Escambia County extended their strong lead in the third quarter of the consolation game as they scored nine points and held the Lady Eagles to four points to move into the final quarter leading 30-8.

The Lady Blue Devils made the most of the final period battling the Lady Eagles for the final eight minutes to come away with the 44-20 victory.

Escambia County was led in the contest by Lady Blue Devils Shy’Keitha Crenshaw and Nicole Johnson, who each scored eight points. Crenshaw finished with three steals and two rebounds, while Johnson posted 11 rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Lady Blue Devil Diamond Williams finished with seven points, seven steals, five assists and three rebounds in the win.

Jasmine Ireland added six points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals for Escambia County.
