ECMS Eagles defeat Gulf Shores 43-40

Escambia County Middle School overcame a late deficit to force overtime and came away with a victory over the Gulf Shores Dolphins on Thursday in Gulf Shores.

The ECMS Eagles eighth grade (8-1) bounced back from a rough second quarter to pull out the victory in extra time.

In the first quarter, the Eagles were outscored 11-10 and fell further behind after Gulf Shores beat them 11-6 in the second period.

Trailing 22-16 at halftime, the Eagles fought back in the third quarter outscoring the Dolphins 14-12 in the third quarter to pull within four points.

Escambia County again outscored the Dolphins in the fourth quarter this time 8-4 and forcing overtime with less than a minute left in regulation.

In overtime, ECMS continued their successful stretch by outscoring Gulf Shores 7-4 in the extra period to come away with the 43-40 victory.

Dalvin Patterson led the way for the Eagles as he scored nine points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Anthony Fountain added eight points and 10 rebounds, while Devontae Lee posted eight points and five rebounds.

Eagles Trae Thompson and T.J. Knots each posted seven points in the win. Knots had eight assists and two steals, Thompson posted four assists and three steals.

The Eagles next game will be Monday  on the the road against Daphne. Games begin at 4:30 p.m.
