Lady Devils enter ASWA rankings at No. 7

Coming off the heels of an upset victory over the UMS-Wright Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday night, the Escambia County Lady Blue Devils entered the ASWA poll sitting at No. 7 in Class 4A on Wednesday.

The Lady Blue Devils (13-2, 1-0) pulled off a stunning victory over the No. 9 Lady Bulldogs winning 38-30.

Escambia County earned the victory with a fourth-quarter comeback after trailing the Lady Bulldogs entering the final period of play.
In the first quarter, the Lady Blue Devils used their quickness to jump out to a slim 11-9 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs battled past the Lady Blue Devils in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Blue Devils 9-6 to go into halftime leading 18-17.

Following halftime, the Lady Blue Devils continued to trail the Lady Bulldogs until an offensive outburst in the fourth period.

In the third quarter, each team had trouble getting points on the scoreboard, but the Lady Bulldogs were able to extend their lead by one points beating the Lady Blue Devils 7-6 in the period.

Trailing 25-23 entering the fourth quarter, the Lady Blue Devils swarmed UMS-Wright defensively and drove past them on offense as they scored 15 points in the final quarter and held the Lady Bulldogs to five. The scoring outburst allowed the Lady Blue Devils to blow past the Lady Bulldogs to come away with a 38-30 win.

Jasmine Ireland led the Lady Blue Devils in the victory with a team-high 16 points. Diamond Williams added 14 points for ECHS, and she also posted three steals, two assists and two rebounds.

Lady Blue Devil Nicole Johnson scored seven points in the win and led ECHS with seven rebounds. Johnson also had two steals and two blocks.

The Lady Blue Devils next game will be Friday, Jan. 13 with a trip to Mobile to take on Saraland in area action. Games begin at 5 p.m.
