ECHS continues win streak

Escambia County High School earned its 18th consecutive victory last Friday beating the UMS-Wright Bulldogs 60-41 at UMS-Wright Prep School in Mobile.

The No. 9 Blue Devils easily won the math up using their defense and athleticism to outplay the hosting Bulldogs.

In the first quarter, Escambia County won the battle on both ends of the court as they outscored the Bulldogs 12-6.

The Blue Devils continued to pour on points in the second quarter as they hit made the most of their chances to go on a 14-11 run. At the half, ECHS led 26-17.

Moving into the second half, ECHS held firm to their lead before pulling away in the fourth quarter.

In the third period, the Blue Devils and Bulldogs play basket-for-basket with both teams scoring 17 points in the quarter.

With ECHS leading 43-34, the teams went into the fourth quarter with different motives. The Blue Devils looking to hold their lead finished off the contest with a 17-7 run to win 60-41.

Blue Devil Fred Knight led the team in the victory with 18 points to go along with seven assists, six rebounds, two steals and a block.

Desmond Johnson playing in place of Dalvin Craft recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. He also had two blocks.

Desmond Williams chipped in 12 points for the Blue Devils to go along with nine rebounds, four assists and five blocks.

Blue Devils Tony McAroy and Tyrell Ford scored five points apiece. McAroy also had two assists and two rebounds.

The Blue Devils next game will be Thursday on the road against the Hillcrest Jaguars. Games begin at 5 p.m.

In junior varsity basketball action last Friday, the Escambia County Blue Devils fell to the UMS-Wright Bulldogs in a close match up.

The Blue Devils (8-5) played a close game with the Bulldogs, but a tough third quarter hurt their chances to win.

The first quarter was a low-scoring period with neither team finding much luck at the hoop with the Bulldogs coming away with a 5-2 lead.

In the second quarter, the Blue Devils bounced back to outscore UMS-Wright 10-9, but still trailed 14-12 at halftime.

Following the break, the Bulldogs found a chance to extend their lead and pulled ahead far enough to pick up the win.

UMS-Wright extended thier lead to 11 points in the third quarter with a 20-11 run that put them ahead 34-23.

In the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils managed to outscore the Bulldogs 15-13, but the 11-point lead would be too much to overcome.

Blue Devil Darius McCarthy led the team with 15 points, whie Jarvis Knight finished the loss with nine.

Garrett Jackson and Malik McMillian each scored four points for ECHS and Devontae Walker recorded three.

Blue Devil Jerome Webster rounded out the scoring with two points.

The Blue Devils next game will be Thursday on the road against the Hillcrest Jaguars. Games begin at 5 p.m.
