Lady Devils face Andalusia Thursday

Coming off of a huge victory in the sub-regional round at Jackson High School, the Escambia County Lady Blue Devils will look to continue their success in the 2011-12 season.

The Lady Blue Devils (21-5, 4-2) advanced to the South Region Tournament by beating the Lady Aggies 61-40.

In the first-round of the regional, the Lady Blue Devils will have their hands full with against the No. 6 Andalusia Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bulldogs currently sit with a 27-2 record, with their only two losses coming to Class 6A schools in Enterprise and Central-Phenix City.

Currently, the Lady Bulldogs sit on a 25-game winning streak and finished the as the Class 4A Area 3 champions.

The Lady Bulldogs are led by senior guards Alexis Horton and Shi’Amber Townsend. Horton averages 19.8 points per game, while Townsend averages 15.8 as the second-leading scorer on the team. Additionally, Alison Daniels, Alectricia Barnes and Tyleshia Malcolm provide good support to round out the starters.

Heading into the contest, the Lady Blue Devils are led by guards Jasmine Ireland and Diamond Williams.

In the game against Jackson, Ireland finished with 21 points, while Williams had 19. Escambia County will also see support from forward Nicole Johnson, who scored a season-high 19 points against the Lady Aggies.

The Lady Blue Devils and the Lady Bulldogs will tip off on at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the University of South Alabama’s Mitchell Center in Mobile.
