Blue Devils track team finds confidence in meet

Escambia County High School opened its track season on March 6 finishing fifth in a meet at Northview High School in Bratt, Fla.

The Blue Devils competeted against teams from Northview, Jay, J.U. Blacksher and Central in the meet.

Escambia County had one winner in the competition with Desmond Moore winning the 100-meter run. He also finished second in the 200-meter run.

Also placing in the boys portion of the meet were Nathaniel Dennis with a fourth-place finish in the 100m and Tylik Rudolph finishing fourth in the 400-meter run.

For the Lady Blue Devils, Diamond McCullam took home a second-place finish in the 200m and fourth-place run in the 400m.
Bianca White rounded out the girls competition with a third-place finish in the 100m.

The meet had its ups and downs, but for it being a first meet, things went well, Karl Smith,ECHS interim-head track coach, said.

“Overall, I was impressed with how our kids performed,” he said. “You could tell they were nervous with it being the first meet. They had some butterflies, but they overcame it and will do better at our next meet.”

Escambia County’s next track meet will be at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Northview High School in Bratt, Fla.
