Cougars shut out Sparta 11-0

Escambia Academy Cougars pitcher Jarrett Hadley was the leader on the mound for the Cougars Tuesday, as they pounded the Sparta Academy Warriors 11-0  in Evergreen.

Hadley pitched all five innings for the Cougars giving up three hits in the win, while striking out six batters.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, the Cougars pounced on the Warriors in the third picking up six runs to jump out to a 7-0 lead.

After two more scoreless innings by the Warriors, the Cougars put the 10-run rule into effect with four more Cougars crossing the plate in the top of the fifth inning.

One last shut out inning by Hadley and the Cougars’ defense put the game at an 11-0 final.

Leading the Cougars at the plate was Austin McGhee. McGhee went 2-for-3 in the contest leading the team with four RBI.

Braxton Chastang was also a force at the plate for the Cougars. The Cougars’ leadoff batter went 1-for-4 in the game, but had two RBI.

Cameron McGhee went 2-for-3 in the game with  a double and an RBI, while Reid Bell hit 2-for-4 and recorded an RBI.

Chance Jackson and Cole Boatwright each went 1-for-2 in the win. Both also had one RBI.

Other Cougars recording hits were Clayton Dyess and Hadley both going 1-for-3.

The Cougars next game will be Tuesday at home against Sparta Academy. Games begin at 3:30 p.m. with the junior varsity.
