Brooks pitches shutout, boosts Cougars to 14-0 win

Allie Brooks led the Escambia Academy Lady Cougars to victory on Thursday pitching a shutout against the Sparta Academy Lady Warriors in Canoe.
The Lady Cougars’ pitcher held Sparta off of the scoreboard with support from her defense, as Escambia Academy dominated at the plate to win 14-0.
Escambia Academy (6-3) put the game away before it ever really got started opening the game with 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Following the opening inning explosion, the Lady Cougars extended their lead in the second inning with three runs and capped off the game with their 14th run in the bottom of the third inning.
On the mound, Brooks kept the Lady Warriors at bay for four innings to come away with an impressive shutout victory.
At the plate, Lady Cougar Grayson Emmons was a force to be reckoned with, while Megan Duncan showed off her speed on the bases.
Emmons finished the game hitting 2-for-4 with a team-leading three RBIs and three stolen bases. Duncan led the team with five stolen bases and hit 3-for-3 in the game with two RBIs.
Sydney McGhee also had a strong day at the plate for the Lady Cougars going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and three runs scored.
Niki Bryan and Lacie Flowers each hit 1-for-4 in the win with Bryan scoring two runs and Flowers crossing the plate once.
Lady Cougar Chelsey Ramer ripped a triple and scored two runs for EA, while Hannah Fountain and Brooks each scored a run in the game.
The Lady Cougars next game will be Tuesday on the road against Santa Rosa Christian Academy. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Escambia Academy scored a walk-off victory Tuesday, as the Lady Cougars’ junior varsity defeated the Sparta Academy Lady Warriors 2-1 in Canoe.
Kennedy McGhee was the hero for the Lady Cougars (4-3) scoring both of the runs for Escambia Academy in the win. McGhee finished the game 1-for-2 with a double and the two runs.
Sparta jumped on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the first inning and held the 1-0 lead until McGhee scored EA’s first run in the bottom of the third.
McGhee then broke the tie in the final inning scoring the winning run on a single hit by Lady Cougar Carson Barnett (1-for-1, RBI).
Other Lady Cougars recording hits were Victoria Sawyer (1-for-2), Anna Catherin Sasser (1-for-2) and Autumn Corley (1-for-2, 2B).
The next game for the Lady Cougars’ junior varsity will be April 3 on the road at Jackson Academy in Jackson. The game begins at 4:30 p.m.
