Rams rack up 18 hits in 16-6 victory

Atmore Christian School piled up 18 hits Tuesday in its game against Gateway Academy in Atmore.

The Rams dominated the game at the plate batting better than .500 against Gateway running away with the contest 16-6.

Gateway jumped on the board first taking a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Rams bounced back to take the lead in the bottom of the inning scoring six runs. Johnathan Bender (1-for-4, 2B, 2RBI) had the big hit of the inning for the Rams ripping a two-run double.

After a stalemate in the second inning, Gateway tied the game at 6 with their final two runs of the game crossing the plate on a two-run home run by Wingard.

Atmore Christian broke the tie in the bottom of the third with five batters crossing the plate to put the Rams back on top 11-6.

The Rams put the game away in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings with one run in the fourth and four in the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Racking up hits for the Rams in the win were Brooks Hart (4-for-4, 2RBI), Josh McDonald (4-for-4, RBI) and Dalton Hart (3-for-3, 2RBI), who all were perfect at the plate.

Ram Travis Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the win, while Christopher Gehman hit 2-for-4 and recorded an RBI.

William Swartzendruber and Perry Metzler both went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the contest.

Arri Torres was hitless in the game, but did score a run for the Rams.

The Rams next game will be next week against the Escambia Academy Cougars. Game time is to be determined after a rain out on Friday.
