The ACS Lady Rams serve during a home loss Monday night.

The Atmore Christian School volleyball team lost their match Monday against the La Vida Arena Homeschool team in four total sets.

During the match, whichever team jumped out ahead early wound up winning the set. LVA took an early lead in the first and second sets and went on to win both by scores of 25-17 and 25-14.

A lack of communication plagued ACS, as there were difficulties calling out and defending volleys by LVA.

In the third set, the team seemed much more aggressive and determined to win. They came out with an early lead and never relinquished their lead. They went on to win the set 25-19. Many of those in their loyal fan base rose to their feet, audibly demonstrating their satisfaction with the team’s strong play.

But the celebration was to be short-lived. The team fell behind quickly in the fourth set and eventually lost the set 25-17 and the match 3-1.

Among the high points, the team did receive 10 ace serves from Grace Kilcrease. Charity Hall chipped in 12 kills. Brianna Pearson had 9 kills and freshman Kelsey Baker had five total ace serves, four of which came in the winning set.

Following the game, head coach Michelle Yoder said there are still a lot of things she needs to work on with the team, primarily working with setters, working on serve-receive and finding the right rotation.

The team’s next game will take placeTuesday, Sept. 18 in Gulfport, Miss. against Christian Collegiate Academy with the JV game set for 4:30 p.m. and the Varsity to follow at 5:30 p.m. The team’s next home game is Thursday, Sept. 20 against East Hill Christian School with a Varsity game scheduled for 5 p.m.
