Lady Devils win opener

The Escambia County High Lady Blue Devils won their season opener 13-3 over Monroe County in a five inning game.
ECHS pitcher Kaylee Cox threw a complete game, struck out seven and gave up two earned runs and no walks in the win.
Coach Daryl Otwell said the Lady Blue Devils played well on defense the entire game.
“We made a few minor mistakes, but overall played a good game,” he said.
Catcher Jasmine Ireland went 2-for-3 with a two-run double. Centerfielder Jessica Sansfree went 2-for-3 with a two-run double and Cox went 1-for-3 with a two-run double.
The home opener scheduled for Friday was rescheduled to Friday, April 12. The Lady Devils next games are today against Leroy at 10:30 a.m. and Jackson at noon in Thomasville.
The tournament Saturday will conclude with a single elimination round.
