It only took four innings.
The Atmore Christian School Lady Rams made quick work of the Alethia Christian School Lady Lions in an 18-3 win Thursday evening.
Trailing 2-0, Grace Kilcrease scored in the bottom of the first inning to cut the lead to 2-1. Gracie Coon walked before Karrie Hillburn scored to tie it up.
Lauren Metzler and Charity Hall each singled to score Coon and put ACS up 3-2. Brianna Pearson singled during the next at-bat and scored Metzler from second. Hall scored next on a passed ball to give ACS a 5-2 lead.
With Kelsey Baker at the plate, Pearson scored on a passed ball to make it 6-2. Baker then singled and stole second, while Mary-Katherine Cooper was awarded first base after being hit with a pitch.
Kaylynn Swartzendruber advanced the runners during the next at-bat with a groundout to first base. Kilcrease singled right after her to score Baker and give ACS a 7-2 lead.
Hillburn tripled during the next at-bat, scoring Cooper and Kilcrease for a 9-2 lead.
Coon reached first on an error and Courtney Hursh scored to make it 10-2. Coon scored on a passed ball during the next at-bat to increase the lead to 11-2.
Metzler singled, but Hall was thrown out at first to end the threat.
Hillburn recorded a strikeout and retired the Lady Lion side in the top of the second.
With Pearson on second, ACS’ Baker was walked. Hursh struck out before Swartzendruber hit into a fielders’ choice that scored Pearson. The Lady Rams led 12-2 with two outs in the bottom of the second.
Kilcrease was retired during the next at-bat to end the inning.
A walk, a steal and a single helped the Lady Lions score one run in the top of the third to cut the ACS lead to 12-3.
Hillburn singled to leadoff the bottom of the third. With Swartzendruber at the plate, Hillburn stole second and third. Coon was walked and a groundout to first by Metzler scored Hillburn to put the Lady Rams up 13-3.
Hillburn struck out the first batter in the top of the fourth before retiring the side in order.
Pearson tripled to leadoff the bottom of the fourth inning and scored on an error to give ACS a 14-3 lead.
Baker singled, but Hursh struck out. Swartzendruber singled to score Baker from second for a 15-3 lead. Kilcrease singled to move Swartzendruber to second. Both players scored during the next at-bat to make it 17-3 and Hillburn scored the game-ending run at 18-3.
