The Atmore Christian School Lady Rams used a 10-run fourth inning to trounce the Lady Saints of Central Christian 13-1 in the final round of the Panhandle Christian Conference West Division tournament.

“It was by far our best game of the year,” said ACS coach Tim Battles.

The ladies are peaking at the right time with the Panhandle Christian Conference Final Four slated to take place, starting Friday. The Lady Rams will play twice Friday, starting at 5 p.m.

Battles said the play of the game happened in the fourth inning. Central had a runner on third with no outs when a batter hit a line drive to the ACS third baseman, who immediately tagged the runner out for a double play.

“We came up in the fourth inning and the hit parade started,” he said. “We hit the ball and they made some mistakes that helped us.”

The Lady Rams scored eight of their 10 fourth-inning runs with two outs in the inning.

Pitcher Kerrie Hillburn “had a great outing.” She gave up only two walks, Battles said. Hillburn also went two-for-four from behind the plate and took home tournament most valuable player honors.

Gracie Coon, Kaylynn Swartzendruber and Grace Kilcrease each also went two-for-four, while Charity Hall went two-for-three.

Battles said he was pleased with the effort in the game.

“There were no errors in the field to speak of,” he said. “It was one of those days where we did everything well. If we come out and play that kind of focused ball we’ll have fun this weekend.”
