ATMORE – Deacon Raymond Barron Sr., 103, of Atmore (Nokomis community), received the Master’s call from labor to reward on Monday, April 29, 2013, at his residence.

Born Feb. 15, 1910, in Marengo County, he was a resident of the Nokomis Community for over 70 years. He worked as a pulpwood laborer until his retirement. He was a member of Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church in Nokomis, where he was a deacon, Sunday School Supt., and director of the BTU.

His wife, Mary L. Barron; four daughters, Minnie Ruth Barron, Irene Downey, Marvernee Barnes and Allene Robinson; three sons, Raymond Barron Jr., Noah Barron and Floyd Edward Barron; his parents, Frank and Genny Barron; several of his sisters and brothers; and grandchildren preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish his life are six daughters, Minnie Street, Margaret Martin and Barbara Forney, all of Nokomis, Doris English of Atmore, Alice Hussey of Freeport, N.Y. and Mary Barron of Hempstead, N.Y.; one son, Walter Barron of Westbury, N.Y.; three sisters, Dorothy Vines of Birmingham, Emma Hatch of Mobile and Frankie Bayne of Atmore; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren.

Homegoing services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church in Nokomis with Apostle Louis Banks, eulogist, and the Rev. Dennis K. Stephens, pastor, officiating. Retirement of his remains will be laid to rest in the Mt. Shiloh Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC directing.
