Atmore native named basketball Player of the Year

An Atmore native was recently named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
Miles College’s Courtney English received the award after a senior season with the NCAA Division II school where she averaged a double-double with 16.4 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game.
The 5-foot-11-inch 22-year-old power forward was ranked first in Division II basketball in double-doubles with 18 in 26 games. She was fourth in the conference in scoring, first in rebounds, second in field goal percentage at 42 percent, first in minutes played at 38.26 per game, sixth in blocks and eighth in steals.
