E’Layzha Bates hits a shot for the Lady Chiefs volleyball team

The Northview Lady Chiefs won a thrilling five set match against Chipley to remain second in the district.
The Lady Chiefs survived losing the first two sets to storm back and take the last three. The scores were, 21-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-17 and 16-14.
In the last game Northview took an early 11-2 lead before Cipley stormed back after an E’Laysha Bates shot found the net and broke service.
Chipley took a 13-12 lead before the score was tied again on the next point. Chipley and Northview traded scores until a Chipley serve found the net to give the Lady Chiefs a 15-14 lead and a kill by Danielle Steadham ended the game.
“It meant a lot to our girls,” coach Barbara Luker said after the game.
Luker said he reminded her players that they were still in the match even after dropping the first two sets.
“I just told them to remember they had the skill to win,” she said. “I’m so proud of them.”
Steadham finished with one ace, 13 kills, three blocks and 15 digs. Teammate Kyndall Hall scored five aces, three kills, seven assists and eight digs.
The Lady Chiefs were coming off a district loss to first-place Baker on Tuesday, Oct. 1. In that match, both the varsity and junior varsity teams were defeated.
JV lost 10-25, 7-25 and varsity lost in straight sets as well 14-25, 21-25 and 20-25.
