After winning its first game of the season, the Atmore Christian School basketball team dropped two games earlier this week.
The Rams lost 56-54 at home Monday to Calvary Christian and 60-52 to Sparta Academy in Evergreen. The Rams dropped to 1-2 with the losses.
The game Monday came down to a three-point attempt by Ethan Heller with less than a second remaining, coach Tim Battles said.
“We had a pretty good look from three,” he said.
Heller led the team with 17 points, while Myles Maher added 15. Joseph Ferrell added 14 and Christian Scott poured in 9.
“We were on the brink of having four players in double figures,” Battles said.
He said the team is unselfish this year and has been able to score more so far, compared to last season when the Rams averaged 35 points.
“The ball is going in the hole,” Battles said. “We’re scoring a little better.”
The loss to Sparta was close throughout, Battles said. The Warriors led by only four points with 1:18 left. The Rams led after the first quarter in the back and forth game.
“It was very close throughout,” Battles said. “It was a really good game. It was one of those exhausting games, where you hope you can come out on top.”
Scott led the team with 18 points against the Warriors. Maher had 13 and Heller poured in 12.
The Rams will spend the next two days in a tournament at West Florida Baptist in Milton.
