ECHS Principal Dennis Fuqua said he has received 15 resumes from head football coach applicants, including some from Wyoming. The deadline for candidates to apply for the position is Friday, Jan. 10.

The position of Escambia County High School athletic director and head football coach has received interest from all over the country, since Lev Holly relinquished the position last month.

ECHS Principal Dennis Fuqua said he’s received 15 resumes from Alabama, Wyoming, Louisiana and Georgia.

“The job is open until (Friday, Jan. 10) and then I’ll start the interview process,” he said.

Fuqua said he expects to get a few more candidates before the deadline. He will narrow them down and possibly hold a second interview if necessary.

The job has been posted on the county schools’ website, which is the exclusive way to apply, Fuqua said, adding that he’s been impressed by the resumes that have been received so far.

“I’m not surprised by the number,” Fuqua said. “I’m surprised by how quickly we received some of the resumes.”

He said the school began receiving resumes the day after Holly resigned.

Holly resigned on Dec. 12 after two seasons at the helm of the Blue Devils. Holly said at the time that it was a family decision, but also about a new job opportunity, which he didn’t discuss.

He went 5-15 in his two seasons as head coach, winning three games his first year and two games this last season.
