EA goes 1-2 in recent play

Escambia Academy’s varsity Cougars finished 1-2 in three games last week, including a heartbreaking 13-inning loss.

EA fell to visiting Monroe Academy, 4-3, on Tuesday, April 8, losing in 13 innings. The Cougars trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

The Cougars defeated Sparta Academy, 14-4, in five innings, on Thursday, April 10, in Canoe.

EA scored one run in the first inning, three in the second, one in the third, four in the fourth, and five in the fifth inning.

Tadd Huskey was 2-for-3, with two RBIs and a run scored. Chris Brown was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Tristan McAnally, Nate Smith, Brett Gorum and H.T. Fountain each scored two runs in the win.

McGhee started the game for the Cougars and earned the win, working three innings and allowing two hits and three runs, while striking out three. Gorum pitched the final two innings, allowing one run and one hit while striking out two.

On Friday, April 11, the Cougars fell to visiting Jay, by a score of 8-2.

EA led 2-0 after five innings, but Jay scored two runs in the sixth to tie the game and added six runs in the seventh to take the lead.

Fountain and Huskey scored the Cougars’ runs. Huskey and Ryan Johnson earned an RBI each.

EA’s final regular season game was Tuesday, April 15, against visiting Northview at 6 p.m. The score of that game was not complete by press time.
