County swears in 3

Three Escambia County commissioners were sworn in for their new terms of office at the Wednesday, Nov. 12, meeting. Commissioner David Stokes, District 1, was sworn in to begin his seventh term; Commissioner Larry White, District 3, was sworn in for a sixth term; and Commissioner David Quarker, District 5, was sworn in to begin his second term.
In other business, commissioners:
• approved the minutes of the Oct. 13 meeting and the accounts payable;
• approved a software license agreement that was approved for the reappraisal department;
• approved an agreement between Escambia County Area Transit System and Southwest Alabama Behavioral Health for transportation services;
• approved an agreement between the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission and the Agency on Aging for funding for the aging program;
• approved three engineering agreements relating to engineering and inspection services for three ATRIP projects;
• adopted a 10-year solid waste management plan and appointed Stokes and County Administrator Tony Sanks to the solid waste authority;
• designated posting for Fannie Road and Old Fannie Road as “No Thru Trucks” roadways;
• approved an agreement with the Alabama Dept. of Transportation for an ATRIP project to resurface Sunset Drive, Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Northgate Drive and Virginia Drive (all in the Atmore area); and,
• established the regular meeting schedule as the second and fourth Monday at 9 a.m., with admin meetings at 4 p.m. on the Tuesday prior to the regular meeting.
