Mr. David Mitchell, 54, of Atmore, traded his earthly life for eternal life on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, as a result of a house fire at his residence.

A native and lifelong resident of Atmore, Mr. Mitchell was a well-known carpenter who had attended Escambia County High School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church-McCullough.

Those who awaited him in Glory included his daughter, Tabatha Walker; his parents, James C. Mitchell Sr. and Mary Alice Mitchell; step-mother, Ida Pearl Mitchell; sisters, Mary C. “Catbaby” Mitchell and Annie R. Dailey; brothers, John Hollinger Jr., Carl Hollinger, Joseph Mitchell, Donald Mitchell and Ben Mitchell (who died February 2014).

Those left to cherish the memories of his life are one step-daughter, Paulette Walker of Tennessee; five sisters, Barbara (Charlie Roberson) Mitchell, Jewell (Mickey) Ankum, Linda Faye (Jimmy) Marshall, Deborah (Abe) Bishop and Gloria Pugh, all of Atmore; three brothers, J.C. (Dorothy) Mitchell Jr., Robert (Evelyn) Mitchell of Brewton and Lloyd Mitchell of Monroeville; three step-sisters, Mary Rhoades, Annie Pearl Willis and Letha Faye Barnes, all of Atmore; three step-brothers, Leroy Willis Jr. of Atmore, Willie Ray Willis of Atlanta, Ga. and Michael Willis of Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Hollinger of Atmore; and a special friend, Mary Powers of Atmore.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church-McCullough with the Rev. Charles Jones, pastor, officiating. Inhumation will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Public viewing will be Friday from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. His body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service, with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC, directing.
